Why this event matters

The Nordic Africa EV Summit 2026 will focus on the systems needed to move electric mobility from individual projects towards wider deployment across African markets. Discussions will bring together policy, infrastructure, finance and industry, with particular attention to the practical conditions needed for electric mobility to scale.

The summit’s main thematic areas include charging infrastructure and grid readiness, continental coordination, financing the transition and circular EV value chains. These conversations will look beyond vehicle adoption to questions around public transport, heavy-duty mobility, regional standards, investment and the infrastructure required to support a growing electric mobility ecosystem.

Why Addis Ababa?

Addis Ababa is a particularly relevant setting for the summit. As the home of the African Union and a growing centre of electric-mobility activity, the city provides a useful backdrop for discussions about how African countries can coordinate policy, infrastructure and investment as the sector develops.

The main conference programme will take place at the Addis Ababa Science Museum on 15–16 September, following industry visits, workshops and other pre-summit activities on 14 September

What Fuel the Shift Is Watching

For Fuel the Shift, one of the most important questions is how Africa moves from electric vehicle adoption to African value creation.

That means looking at who finances the infrastructure, where batteries and components are produced, how charging networks are developed, whether regional standards can support cross-border mobility, and how critical minerals can connect to manufacturing, reuse and recycling on the continent.

The summit’s focus on financing, interoperability, heavy-duty transport and circular value chains makes it an important space to watch how these questions are beginning to move from ambition into implementation.

Event information is based on publicly available details from the organiser. Programme, speakers and registration information may change; please visit the official event website for the latest updates.
