Privacy Policy

This is a draft policy prepared for review — please have it checked against your organisation’s actual data practices and applicable law before publishing as final.

Fuel the Shift (“we”, “us”, “our”) is an Africa-led journalism and dialogue platform backed by Vice Versa Global. This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect through fuel theshift.africa, why, and what rights you have over it.

Who we are

Fuel the Shift is published and edited independently, with strategic and funding support from partners including Vice Versa Global. Editorial decisions are made solely by the Fuel the Shift team.

What personal data we collect

  • Newsletter subscribers: your email address, when you sign up for “The Shift Brief”.
  • Partnership inquiries: your name, organisation, work email and message, submitted via the Partner With Us form.
  • Event submissions: event details and a contact method, submitted via the Dialogue Hub’s “List Your Event” form.
  • Site usage data: standard web server logs (IP address, browser, pages visited), collected automatically for security and basic traffic analysis, not tied to your name.

We do not require an account to read the site, and we do not collect payment information anywhere on fueltheshift.africa.

Cookies

The site uses a small number of essential cookies to keep basic functionality working (e.g. remembering that a spam-protection check has run). If reCAPTCHA is enabled on our forms, Google may set its own cookies to distinguish humans from bots — see Google’s Privacy Policy for details. We do not use cookies for advertising or cross-site tracking.

Third-party services

  • Google reCAPTCHA (where enabled) — spam protection on our forms.
  • ElevenLabs Conversational AI (where enabled) — powers the site’s chat assistant; messages you send it are processed by ElevenLabs to generate a reply.
  • Our email delivery provider — sends newsletter and transactional emails you’ve requested.

None of these partners are permitted to use your data for their own marketing purposes.

How long we keep your data

Newsletter subscriber data is kept until you unsubscribe. Partnership inquiries and event submissions are retained for as long as needed for editorial and partnership follow-up, and reviewed periodically for deletion.

Your rights

You can ask us to access, correct, export or delete the personal data we hold about you at any time, and you can unsubscribe from the newsletter using the link in any email we send. Contact us using the details below to exercise these rights.

Children’s privacy

Fuel the Shift is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site evolves. Material changes will be reflected by an updated revision date at the top of this page.
